How the real Einbürgerungstest works
The Einbürgerungstest is the knowledge test for German citizenship. Its official name is Test Leben in Deutschland. Everyone gets the same format, so a realistic practice test is the best way to find out where you stand.

What this practice test does
- Same draw as the real test. 30 random general questions and 3 random questions for the Bundesland you choose, in a new mix every time.
- Official questions. All questions come from the official catalog (EinbTestV, Anlage 1), including its pictures. The answers were checked against the BAMF Online-Testcenter.
- Real conditions. 60 minutes on the clock, a question overview, flags for questions you want to check again, and no answers until you finish.
- Help in your language. Show each question and answer in English, Turkish, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, Persian or French, under the German original.
- Clear results. Your score, pass or fail, and every question you missed with your answer and the correct one.

Questions about the practice test
Is this the official Einbürgerungstest?
No. This is an unofficial practice test by Testbereit, not affiliated with BAMF or any government agency. It uses the questions of the official catalog and the real test format, but it does not count for your naturalisation.
Is the practice test really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no payment. You get one free practice test per browser. More mock exams are in the Testbereit app: 1 a week for free, unlimited with Premium.
How many questions do I need to get right?
17 of 33. That is the pass mark of the real Einbürgerungstest. If you take the Leben in Deutschland test at the end of an integration course, 15 correct answers pass the orientation course, and 17 or more also count for naturalisation.
Which Bundesland should I choose?
Choose the state where you live. The real test has 3 questions about your Bundesland, drawn from the 10 questions for that state.
Can I use a translation in the real test?
No. The real test is only in German. Use the help language to understand the questions while you practise, then learn to recognise the German wording.
Where do my answers go?
Nowhere. Your answers and your result are saved only in this browser (localStorage), so you can continue after a reload. We do not receive them. See the privacy policy.
